Wilson by Bata retro vintage sneakers from 1979

This post is technically not a sneaker ad but is a scan of the 1979 Wilson by Bata sneaker catalog. These sneakers are called the 'Mesa' running shoes. These have a cool style with the unique front toe cap on them. Here's a 1984 ad for the Etonic Allegro running shoe featuring the "Radial Sole System" engineered by an Etonic biophysicist and his switchblade. 👟🗡️ The cliff notes version of this ad is that they contoured the heel to match how most runners strike the ground at an angle. Coming in hot from Arkansas in the 70s ☄️ here’s a vintage ad for the AMBI 'Stranger' sneakers that "don't stay a 'Stranger' to your feet very long." This is from way back when sneakers were still made here in the USA. I kind of love that the sneakers are floating in outer space in what looks like an old Twilight Zone episode. AAU LW-3103 ​vintage sneaker ad from 1981

Here’s a vintage 1981 ad for the AAU LW-3103 upside down swoosh running shoes featuring Frank Giannino. Frank held a 36 year long Guinness World Record for the fastest run across America, 3,067 miles in 46 days, 8 hours, and 36 minutes. The record was beaten in 2016 by Pete Kostelnick who completed the trek in 42 days, 6 hours, and 30 minutes. Here's an ad from 1979 by The Athlete's Foot for the Wilson-Bata Force 5 running shoes. Bata is a large Canadian footwear company that dates back to 1894. While they are not widely known in the US now Wilson and Bata partnered back in the early 1970s to develop sports shoes and the Force 5 is just one of them. In related news the two companies teamed up again recently to re-issue the John Wooden basketball sneakers.

Bauer ​Lightfoot trainer 70s vintage sneaker ad ​

Here’s another cool old pair of vintage 1970’s sneakers, this time by Bauer, a brand best know for their association with pro hockey equipment. Back in the late 70's they produced a line of awesome running shoes, including the Lightfoot.

This ad also made me wonder if it was the inspiration behind the Canadian comedy troupe Kids in the Hall sketch, Mr. Heavyfoot. If anyone knows Dave Foley please ask him for us!
